DIP FORUM Germany
Finding Meaning through Whirling
9th-12th May 2025, Oberlethe, GERMANY

This unique gathering invites DIP followers and graduates, as well as other experienced whirling practitioners and teachers to explore collectively the deeper dimensions of whirling as a spiritual and transformative practice.

Dervish in Progress (DIP), though inspired by Sufism, embraces whirling as a universal movement, much like its use in rituals across various cultures. Free from specific postures, attire, music, or inherited myths tied to particular lineages, DIP offers a contemporary and deeply self-expressive form of moving meditation. This approach has attracted participants from diverse backgrounds, spiritual orientations, and motivations. They value the open space it provides for creating their own unique rituals that promote mental, physical, and emotional transformation.

In the Forum, we aim to facilitate an inspiring exchange on the diversity of these perspectives, individual practices, and the benefits participants have experienced. Under the theme “Finding Meaning through Whirling,” we will share ideas, reflect, and explore how whirling influences our daily lives and supports our journeys of personal growth. The event combines a variety of methods for reflection, creativity, and shared practice to nurture body, mind, and soul. It takes place in beautiful rural surroundings, and the generous (280 m2) “Tao Hall” will be our creative space.

Note: This event language is English and for experienced whirlers, facilitators and teachers who wish to deepen their understanding of the practice. No introduction for beginners will be offered. Beginners interested in joining this event are advised to learn the basics of whirling in a different workshop or through online teaching beforehand.

EVENT FOCUS
The DIP Forum will integrate creative exploration with the essential elements of DIP retreats. However, in contrast to typical retreats, there will be no introduction to whirling or basic technical or theoretical instruction. Instead, the focus is on exchange. Teachers and whirling practitioners will share a creative space where all perspectives are honored, and mutual learning is central to the experience.

Participants can join the DIP Forum in two ways:
  • Contributors: Share talks, performances, or exercises.
  • Participants: Participate in discussions and reflections, and all other practices.

Ideally, whirling practitioners, facilitators and teachers will return from the DIP Forum with fresh ideas to integrate the benefits of whirling into their lives, empowering both themselves and those they guide on their journeys. They will have made new contacts in the whirling community, and strengthened existing friendships. The following elements contribute to this aim: - Morning silent walks for mindfulness and connection. - Warm-up sessions to energize the body (advanced level). - Presentations, discussions and anchoring exercises for inspiration and reflection. - One long whirling session per day, guided by Ziya Azazi. - Shared meals to build community. - Evening performances or screenings to showcase artistic contributions. - Informal gatherings for meaningful exchange. - Time for personal reflection in beautiful surroundings.

CALL FOR CONTRIBUTIONS

Participant contributions are a key element of the DIP Forum. We invite participants to submit contributions in the form of 10-15 minute talks, short performances, methodological demonstrations, or exercises. We are also open to including other forms of contributions if suitable.

Your presentation should contribute to the overall theme “Finding Meaning through Whirling”. It should present your ideas about how whirling serves as a path toward personal growth, discovering deeper meaning or connection, enriching your spiritual life, or mastering central aspects of daily life. Ideally, perspectives from diverse professional fields, from related spiritual and physical practices, art, and science will illuminate the connection of whirling and spirituality in the broadest possible sense. If you are interested in submitting a contribution, please fill out the following form as soon as possible, and no later than end of January: https://rahil.limequery.com/325378
You will first receive a short confirmation of your submission, and if needed we will help clarify your contribution. Accepted contributions will be announced by February 15th, so you can then book your participation with a discount code.
