@TQW 21–22 February 2026
Vienna Whirling Hub at Tanzquartier Wien is a 10-month Dervish in Progress workshop series designed to grow a regular whirling community in Vienna. Following the spirit of our Whirling Hub journey in 2025, we now continue this pathway at TQW with a clear structure: Saturday mornings welcome newcomers and anyone wishing to refresh the basics, including the First Whirling Kiss for first-timers. Saturday and Sunday afternoons are dedicated to long DIP Whirling Sessions, with DIPup and deep practice time. Sunday mornings are the monthly chapter of the series—lecture, Q&A, and implementations—so each workshop becomes a unique step in one continuous learning arc. Open to everyone 16+, the only requirement is the desire to explore the whirling world with curiosity and commitment.
Saturday Morning: Fundamentals and the First Whirling Kiss
As in every workshop of the Vienna Whirling Hub series, we begin in the same welcoming way for newcomers and for those who wish to refresh their core understanding of whirling. We revisit the essential principles of the whirling world, and how friction, inner pressure, gravity, and the strongly felt centrifugal effect shape the environment in which whirling becomes possible. After exploring these principles, newcomers are gently guided into their first experience of whirling, which we call the First Whirling Kiss. For advanced participants, this moment also offers a unique chance to observe how other bodies learn whirling and to discover fresh layers in their own practice.
Saturday Afternoon: DIP Whirling Session
With the basics refreshed, Saturday afternoon opens into a long practice shaped by this month’s theme, Steering the Wheels. We begin to recognise that within whirling, the Body Wheel, the Emotion Wheel, and the Mind Wheel each start to spin—often at different speeds. This practice is about holding the steering: not being carried away by the power of rotation, but learning how to guide it with clarity and care. The long session begins with DIPup (a warm-up combining body-check, stretching, and take-off exercises) to activate coordination and awareness. After DIPup we enter whirling, starting slowly and rising through different tempos until reaching a physical, mental, and emotional peak (the Journey), then moving into slow down (Landing & Restart), where the body rests and resets. This full cycle forms the DIP Whirling Session, practiced in the Whirling Hub with a depth rarely possible before.
Sunday Morning: Deepening Steering the Wheels
Sunday morning is dedicated to the deepening of this month’s core topic: Steering the Wheels. The session takes the form of a lecture-style presentation with Q&A, followed by Needed Implementations and Exercises. We explore the Body Wheel, Emotion Wheel, and Mind Wheel in detail—how each wheel is activated, how they influence one another, and how they can support stability rather than overwhelm. The aim is to clarify these inner steering principles more deeply than in previous years, and to make them directly applicable through practice.
Sunday Afternoon: Integration through whirling
The weekend closes with a second extended whirling session, where body, emotions, and mind are invited to move together with greater coherence. Each Sunday afternoon session begins with DIPup—body-check, stretching, and take-off exercises—to reawaken coordination and awareness. After DIPup we return to whirling, starting slowly and moving through gentle tempo changes, allowing the weekend’s theme to settle in the body. The session builds to a final soft peak and then shifts into slow down, where the body rests and integrates. This cycle completes the DIP Whirling Session and supports assimilation of the weekend’s experience.
Participation: Who can join
This programme is open to everyone aged sixteen and above. No experience is required. The only true requirement is the wish to explore this world of whirling with curiosity and courage.
